Hoping for a recovery!!

Tomatoes! As much as I love them, and I really do, I love the vast number of varieties, sizes, shapes, colours and explosions of taste. I love their versatility in the kitchen. Cooked, raw, preserved, sauced, whatever. I just love them.

However , just not so much this year.

Whilst the weather has been beautiful, it’s also been a little too much for them and successful pollination. The consistently high temperatures (way over the 30c mark) in the polys have meant that they’ve sat in survival mode, despite my best efforts with shading, which I’ve not previously had to do, and wetting the stone floors to try and bring the temps down. I’ve found tomato plants shedding their flowers before fruits can set. Pollinators have been less active in the heat and overall it’s been just a little meh!

However, I’m convinced all is not lost, and in truth I do have a little show so far and with the current drop in temperatures, so with a little tlc and spoiling I’m hoping that we can make a little bit of a recovery and still produce some more of these wonderfully versatile fruits.

Just a couple of pics to show all is not lost!
